Sangakkara is hoping that Sri Lanka can win the ICC World T20 in front of their home fans
Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara has revealed that since his team will be on home soil during the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20, he expects them to take full advantage of their experience with the different conditions.
Sangakkara added that playing in front of home fans will give his team an extra incentive to do whatever possible in order to win the ICC World Twenty20.
Speaking exclusively on the ICC’s cricket show, ICC Cricket 360°, Sangakkara said: “I think we have got some great players. Whoever makes the final squad will be the best available players to make up the combination to help us win the ICC World Twenty20. Knowing our conditions, playing at home is going to be an added buzz and an added inspiration.”
However, Sangakkara knows that preparation will be the key as to how far Sri Lanka advance in the tournament.
“Preparation is going to be very important. Then it becomes less of a lottery and more about performing consistently. Of course T20 changes in a matter of a couple of deliveries and an over here or there can shift momentum or you can also lose your game,” Sangakkara added.
The former Sri Lanka captain also stated that he feels extremely privileged to play during a time where his team are playing very well at home and abroad.
“Playing two ICC Cricket World Cup finals and an ICC World Twenty20 final has been incredible,” Sangakkara said.
Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene shares Sangakkara’s enthusiasm, and credits the country for all the heart they have shown in the last decade.
