Younis was known as a master of the art of reverse swing
Cricket Australia have announced that they interviewed former Pakistan captain and coach Waqar Younis to become Craig McDermott’s successor as the team’s new bowling coach.
Younis, who is currently based in Sydney after finishing his two-year coaching stint with the Pakistan national team, has been in talks with Cricket Australia’s team performance manager Pat Howard about the availability of the position.
With a lot of young bowling talents like Mitchell Starc, James Pattinson and Pat Cummins developing into future superstars, Younis will only help further their already outstanding bowling abilities.
If selected, Younis, who is known as one of the masters of reverse swing, is thought to help the Australian bowlers master the art, something they have found extremely difficult in the last couple of years.
When McDermott was the bowling coach, the Australian bowlers were told to stick to the basics, which Younis will be looking to build upon even further.
During his international career, Waqar, took 373 wickets in 87 Tests and 416 wickets in 262 ODIs, but, resigned as Pakistan coach due to personal and health reasons.
