Bangladesh are asking the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to investigate an incident that occurred in the final over of the Asia Cup final, which they believe resulted in their loss.
Chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Enayet Hossain Siraj, told reporters that Aizaz Cheema, the Pakistan bowler, who bowled the final over in the match, deliberately blocked the path of Bangladesh batsman, Mohammad Mahmudullah.
“We have seen video footage of the incident repeatedly. It is clear that Cheema blocked Mahmudullah deliberately” he said.
Siraj also said that the BCB would request a five run penalty, if the appeal were to be approved by the ACC.
Pakistan, won the dramatic final of the Asia Cup by two runs, after Bangladesh could only score six out of the nine runs they required off the last over.
“We will lodge a written appeal to the ACC very soon and will also give a copy to the International Cricket Council” Siraj said.
If the appeal by the BCB were to go through, Bangladesh, will have won their first Asia Cup in the history of the tournament.
