Rory Kleinveldt admitted he used cannabis

South African all-rounder, Rory Kleinveldt, on Friday, admitted to using the banned drug cannabis.

The South African Cricketers’ Association had already banned Kleinveldt from playing in any domestic matches when he tested positive for a “specified substance”.

Releasing a statement, Kleinveldt admitted the charges and said: “I admit to having acted irresponsibly, I have made a big mistake and should have known what I was doing was wrong.”

Cannabis is a prohibited substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency list, even though it is not known for enhancing the performance of players in sports.

Kleinveldt, who has represented South Africa in two Twenty20 International matches, is currently a member of the Western Cape Cobras. However, this remains to be seen as he is to plead guilty to the doping charges.

Kleinveldt added that whatever the consequences of his actions may be, he would accept it and try to put this shameful act behind him. “As a person and a professional cricketer, I need to take responsibility for this and deal with the consequences of my actions” he said.
