Rory Kleinveldt has failed a drug test

South Africa’s Rory Kleinveldt has failed a drug test, according to a South African anti-doping organisation.

Kleinveldt, who turned 29 on Thursday, tested positive for a “specified substance,” however, the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport refused to give any further details on the case.

A “specified substance,” by definition from the World Anti-Doping Agency, is one that is one that is “more susceptible to a credible, non-doping explanation.”

These “specified substances” can be found in some medicinal products and may be taken unintentionally.

As a precautionary measure, The South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA) has called for Kleinveldt, who has represented South Africa in two Twenty20 International matches, to be removed from all upcoming domestic cricket matches.

SACA plan to review the medical evidence, before they give any comment on what substance Kleinveldt tested positive for.

However, if Kleinveldt is found guilty, the consequences could range from a formal warning to a two-year ban.

Kleinveldt, however, has the right to ask for a “B” sample to be tested in order to clear his name of any wrongdoing.
