Uncapped seamer Duanne Olivier has been included in South Africa’s squad for the third and final Test against Sri Lanka in Johannesburg, which begins on January 12.
Olivier’s call-up comes on the back of South Africa axing pace bowler Kyle Abbott, who ended his international career after signing a four-year Kolpak deal with Hampshire.
The 24-year-old, who represents the Knights, is currently at the summit of the wicket-takers list in the ongoing first-class competition in South Africa with 28 victims at an average of 21.60.
With Wayne Parnell in the squad as well, it is a possibility that the Proteas could field an all-pace attack at the Wanderers.
Meanwhile, uncapped batsman Theunis de Bruyn has also retained his place in the side, but he is highly unlikely to feature in the third Test.
The match in Johannesburg will also be veteran batsman Hashim Amla’s 100th Test match and he will be determined to fire after a disappointing run of form that has seen him fail to make a fifty in his last 10 Test innings.
South Africa squad for third Test: Faf du Plessis (capt), Duanne Oliver, Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Stephen Cook, Theunis de Bruyn, Quinton de Kock (wk), JP Duminy, Dean Elgar, Keshav Maharaj, Wayne Parnell, Vernon Philander, Kagiso Rabada
