Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi has decided to drop a US$ 3.3 million civil lawsuit against former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns.

Modi was sued by Cairns in 2012 after the former claimed that the latter was involved in match-fixing via his Twitter account. Cairns was paid $950,000 in damages after Modi was found guilty of making false statements.

However, Cairns was later accused of lying under oath during the trial and he was charged with perjury and perverting the course of justice. However, Cairns was acquitted of both charges in November last year.

“He’s decided to bring the civil matter to a close and draw a line under it,” Modi’s lawyer told the New Zealand Herald.
