Australia batsman Phillip Hughes’ bat will be placed at the top of Mount Everest during the next climbing season in March and April.

Hughes tragically passed away at the age of 25 when he was struck on the side of the neck by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and New South Wales.

Cricket Australia chairman Wally Edwards has confirmed that Hughes’ bat will be placed atop Mount Everest. He also revealed that a 63-over match will be played in Nepal and that an Australian player will captain one side, while the other team will be led by Nepal skipper Paras Khadka.

“So, although we enter the festive season with heavy hearts, the community’s response has been comforting and in many ways uplifting,” Edwards was quoted as saying by The West Australian.
