Rashid Latif: “Perhaps the selectors will opt for him and Shan Masood as the opening pair. We’ll have to wait and see”

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has called on the selectors to consider making Fakhar Zaman and Shan Masood the go-to openers in limited overs cricket.
Zaman has been playing regularly for the men in green as of late and was particularly effective in their three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, where he scored 165 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 55.
As for Masood, he captains the Pakistan Test team, but has not played ODI and T20I cricket since May 2023 and November 2022 respectively.
Even though it would be a gamble having them open, Latif feels the selectors should at least give them a chance to show what they can do.
“Perhaps the selectors will opt for him and Shan Masood as the opening pair. We’ll have to wait and see,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan recently toured Sri Lanka for three T20Is in Dambulla, but Zaman only scored five runs in the one match he played.
Next up for them will be a T20I series against Australia in Lahore, which will be held from January 29 to February 1.
