Former cricketer Kamran Akmal believes Rohail Nazir should be Pakistan’s back-up wicketkeeper-batsman.
Nazir is one of many bright young prospects in the country and has been heavily involved in domestic cricket as of late.
During the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QeA) Trophy, the 24-year-old scored 460 runs in five matches for Islamabad Region, which included two centuries and two fifties, at an average of 65.71.
He then featured in the President’s Cup Grade-I (1-Day) tournament and amassed 160 runs in seven games for Oil & Gas Development Company Limited, which included a top score of 81, at an average of 26.66.
Currently, Nazir is in action in the President’s Trophy Grade-I competition and has accumulated 39 runs in three matches for Oil & Gas Development Company Limited at an average of 7.80.
“I have to say this, if you are preparing a second wicketkeeper then you should go with a specialist and it can be Rohail Nazir,” Akmal was quoted as saying by Khel Shel on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Since he has been playing domestic cricket, Nazir missed Pakistan’s home series against South Africa, ODI series against Sri Lanka, and T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
He also wasn’t selected for Pakistan’s T20I tour of Sri Lanka, which ended as a 1-1 draw.
