Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha has confirmed that Mohammad Wasim Jnr has become one of the team’s go-to fast bowlers.
Wasim has managed to impress and demonstrate significant promise even with his intermittent appearances in international cricket.
Recently, he was in action in Pakistan’s three-match ODI series against South Africa and took one wicket in one match at an average of 48.
He followed that up with four wickets in two ODIs against Sri Lanka at an average of 24.25.
As for the T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, the 24-year-old claimed one wicket in three games at an average of 91 and an economy rate of 7.58.
“We have many good bowlers in the team, but Wasim Jr is in good rhythm right now and he’s our first-choice fast bowler,” Salman was quoted as saying on Facebook.
After the T20I tri-series, Wasim went back to playing domestic cricket and took part in the President’s Cup Grade-I (1-Day) tournament.
In four matches for the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), he picked up seven wickets at an average of 37.42.
Wasim is likely to get the opportunity to play for Pakistan again after he was included in the squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, which will comprise three T20Is.
All the matches will be held in Dambulla from January 7 to 11.
