Legendary South Africa speedster Dale Steyn has hailed iconic Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram, dubbing him the “left-arm swing king.”
Owing to his all-round prowess with the ball – from wicked bouncers and lethal yorkers to sublime swing that bamboozled countless batsmen – Wasim is widely seen as Pakistan’s greatest-ever pace bowler.
Nicknamed the Sultan of Swing, he took 414 wickets in 104 Tests at an average of 23.62.
The 59-year-old from Lahore is also the second-highest wicket-taker in ODI history as he picked up 502 wickets in 356 matches at an average of 23.52.
“Left-arm swing king,” Steyn said while describing Wasim on The Switch, a cricket channel run by former England batsman Kevin Pietersen.
The Pakistan team recently competed against South Africa at home and began by drawing the Test series 1-1 before winning both the T20Is and ODIs 2-1.
They then took on Sri Lanka in an ODI series and whitewashed them 3-0.
Next up was a T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, which Pakistan ended up winning.
