Former Pakistan head coach Waqar Younis thinks left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir “acted childish” by retiring from international cricket in 2020 and will regret his decision in 10 years’ time.

Amir had been asked to play domestic cricket during that time as he was not living up to expectations, but felt insulted, according to Waqar.

The 33-year-old subsequently decided to end his international career, but did come out of retirement briefly to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he took seven wickets in four matches at an average of 10.28 and an economy rate of 4.50.

Amir retired after the T20 World Cup once again and hasn’t played for his country since.

“Amir acted childish, I think, and after 10 years, he will realise it was a wrong decision to retire just when asked to play domestic cricket,” Waqar was quoted as saying on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Pakistan team recently went up against South Africa at home and drew the Test series 1-1 before claiming a 2-1 win in both the T20Is and ODIs.

They then took on Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series and whitewashed them 3-0.

Afterwards, the men in green faced Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in a T20I tri-series, and ended up winning it after beating Sri Lanka in the final.
