Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has urged Shan Masood to step down as Test captain since he has failed to deliver the results expected of him.
The men in green have endured a turbulent spell in Test cricket, alternating between promising performances and periods of complete letdown.
While Basit praised Masood for his batting, he reiterated that the 36-year-old has to give up the captaincy.
“No doubt you are a good batsman but as a captain you have failed. Step down please for the sake of Pakistan,” he was quoted as saying by Khel Shel on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan’s last Test assignment was a two-match series against South Africa, which ended as a 1-1 draw.
Masood did well with the bat, scoring 170 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 42.50.
After the two Tests, Pakistan defeated South Africa 2-1 in both the T20Is and ODIs.
They then proceeded to whitewash Sri Lanka 3-0 in an ODI series.
Following this, they emerged victorious in a T20I tri-series that included Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
