Pakistan left-arm pace bowler Mohammad Amir doesn’t like the fact that Shaheen Shah Afridi was appointed ODI captain right away.
He pointed out that Afridi ought to have been made vice-captain first in order to judge his performances and whether he can stay healthy.
It should be noted that the 25-year-old replaced Mohammad Rizwan as ODI skipper on October 20, 2025.
“If Shaheen had to be made captain, he could have first been appointed as vice-captain, and his performance judged accordingly – especially considering his fitness,” Amir was quoted as saying by A Sports.
Afridi’s first assignment as ODI captain came during the three-match ODI series against South Africa, which the men in green won 2-1.
The left-arm speedster picked up three wickets at an average of 38.
Afridi is now leading the men in green in a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, but went wicketless in the 1st ODI.
He missed the 2nd ODI due to an illness.
After the ODI series, Pakistan will participate in a T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe from November 18 to 29.
