Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal believes batsmen Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan should have been picked for the 2025 Asia Cup as they are senior players.
Azam and Rizwan have missed out on selection for Pakistan’s last few T20I assignments.
This includes the three-match series against Bangladesh in Lahore, the T20I tour of Bangladesh, the T20I series against the West Indies, and the T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan.
Despite having fallen out of favour with the selectors, Akmal still thinks Azam and Rizwan are useful assets who could have had an impact in the Asia Cup.
“Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan should have been part of the team. Senior players should have been picked for the Asia Cup 2025,” he was quoted as saying by ARY News.
Pakistan made it to the final of the Asia Cup, but failed to be crowned champions as India beat them by five wickets.
The men in green will return to action from October 12 to November 8 when they host South Africa for two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs.
