Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has lashed out at Mohammad Rizwan, saying he is not captaincy material.

Rizwan currently captains Pakistan in ODIs, but Akmal wants him stripped of the position and never given “such powers” again.

“If the Pakistan Cricket Board has the courage, they should make a firm decision and never give such powers to him again. He is simply not [captaincy] material,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Rizwan recently led the Multan Sultans in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and accumulated 367 runs in 10 matches, which included a century and a fifty, at an average of 52.42 and a strike-rate of 139.54.

After the PSL concluded, he missed out on Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which the men in green won 3-0.

He also wasn’t selected for the tour of Bangladesh, where Pakistan lost the T20I series 2-1.

Rizwan will return to action during Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies, but he was only included in the ODI team.

Pakistan and the West Indies will play three T20Is and three ODIs from August 1 to 12.
