Pakistan middle order batsman Saud Shakeel has revealed that he has been working on developing new shots since last year.

Explaining why he wants to expand his arsenal of shots, he noted that it is a “requirement of modern-day cricket”.

Shakeel is one of Pakistan’s go-to batsmen in Test cricket and has seen more game time in ODIs lately.

That said, he did not feature in the limited overs tour of New Zealand, where the men in green were beaten 4-1 in the T20I series and 3-0 in the ODIs.

He did, however, take part in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he captained the Quetta Gladiators.

In the 12 matches he played, he scored 237 runs, which included a top score of 59, at an average of 26.33 and a strike-rate of 117.32.

“New shots are the requirement of modern-day cricket and I am focusing on developing new shots since last year,” the 29-year-old from Karachi was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.

After PSL 10, Pakistan went up against Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, but Shakeel was not included in the team.

The men in green won the series 3-0.
