Legendary fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar wants the new Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise to be from Rawalpindi and named “Pindi Express”.
His comments come after it was reported that the PSL would expand to eight teams in 2026.
Akhtar, who hails from Rawalpindi, noted that the city has an abundance of talented cricketers and therefore deserves a PSL team.
“The city breathes cricket. With the kind of talent Rawalpindi has produced over the years, it’s only fitting that it gets its own PSL team. It has to be Pindi Express. You must vouch for this hashtag for me. Pindi is the city of princes. It’s full of extraordinary talent,” the 49-year-old, who still holds the record for the fastest ball bowled in international cricket at 161.3 kph (100.2 mph), was quoted as saying by A Sports.
The 2025 PSL, known as PSL 10, just finished recently, with the Lahore Qalandars being crowned champions.
Following this, Pakistan faced Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, which they won 3-0.
