Pakistan middle order batsman Saud Shakeel has revealed that if he became chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), he would appoint a head coach for three years.

He noted that this head coach would fulfil his full term and wouldn’t be able to be removed by anyone, even if he were to be replaced as PCB chairman.

In addition to having a long-term coach in place, Shakeel would invest more money into improving the standard of domestic cricket so that the Pakistan team gets top-tier talent.

“First of all, I would bring a head coach who can not be removed by anyone even if I get dismissed from the chairmanship but he would remain the head coach for three years,” the 29-year-old was quoted as saying by A Sports.

“Secondly, I think, we need to uplift the standard of domestic cricket in terms of money.

“The change in the coaching setup definitely affects the environment of the dressing room. If I say that it does not affect us at all, I would be lying. When a new person comes into the dressing room, he comes with his own thoughts, might have liking and disliking so you also need time in getting along.

“I think, the way how changes occurred for the last one to two years, it affected me as well since I am such a person who takes time in getting along with another person.”

Shakeel didn’t feature in Pakistan’s white-ball tour of New Zealand, but captained the Quetta Gladiators in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and accumulated 237 runs in 12 games, which included a top score of 59, at an average of 26.33 and a strike-rate of 117.32.

He also took four wickets at an average of 19.25 and an economy rate of 7.70.

After PSL 10, Pakistan faced Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, but Shakeel was not included in the squad.

The men in green won the series 3-0.
