Former Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie has called Aaqib Javed a “clown”, claiming he was campaigning “behind the scenes” to become “the coach in all formats”.
Gillespie and Gary Kirsten, who served as white-ball head coach, both resigned from their positions after brief tenures, which resulted in Aaqib taking over across all three formats on an interim basis.
However, the former Pakistan fast bowler has now been appointed Director of High-Performance, while ex-New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson has been named Pakistan’s white-ball head coach.
“Aaqib was clearly undermining Gary and I behind the scenes campaigning to be the coach in all formats. He is a clown,” Gillespie, a former Australia speedster, said on an Instagram story as quoted by Sports Tak.
Pakistan have failed to get the results expected of them lately as they crashed out in the group stage of the 2025 Champions Trophy before travelling to New Zealand, where they lost the T20Is 4-1 and the ODIs 3-0.
Many of the national players were then involved in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which the Lahore Qalandars won.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which will take place in Lahore from May 28 to June 1.
