Pakistan opening batsman Abid Ali has called left-arm spinner Mehran Mumtaz an “upcoming star”.
Mumtaz has yet to play international cricket, but has enjoyed a lot of success at the domestic level.
The 21-year-old has taken 63 wickets in 21 first-class matches at an average of 33.14.
In his List A career, he has claimed 47 wickets in 40 games at an average of 33.53.
The Rawalpindi native has also featured in 25 T20s and picked up 27 wickets at an average of 24.51.
Having shown great promise in domestic cricket, Abid noted that Mumtaz is a “hardworking man [with a] bright future” ahead of him.
“Mashallah upcoming star In Sha Allah. Hardworking man [with a] bright future,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Abid was not picked for Pakistan’s recent ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa.
He also didn’t make the cut for the 2025 Champions Trophy, where the men in green failed to make it out of the group stage after losing to New Zealand and India.
Their final game against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain.
Pakistan will now embark on a tour of New Zealand, which will comprise five T20Is and three ODIs that will be held from March 16 to April 5.
