Pakistan spinner Usman Qadir has made it clear that he plans to stay in Australia and play cricket there.
His comments come after he announced his retirement from Pakistan cricket in October 2024.
Qadir represented the men in green in 25 T20Is and took 31 wickets at an average of 18.48.
He also played in one ODI, which came in April 2021, and claimed one wicket at an average of 48.
Providing insight into what the future holds for him, the 31-year-old son of legendary spinner Abdul Qadir aims to domestic cricket in Australia.
It should be noted that before he represented Pakistan, Qadir was making strides in Australia’s cricket set-up as he played for Western Australia and featured for the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (BBL). Additionally, he was also picked in Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI in the past.
“I have now decided to stay in Australia. I’ll stay here and play. My first plan is to perform well, progress slowly and play domestic cricket here,” Qadir was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
“I don’t think much about the future and strive to do well in the present. Therefore, I can’t say anything about what will happen in the future. Maybe, you’d see me playing in the Melbourne Cricket Ground next year.”
The Pakistan team recently played an ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, where they made it to the final before losing to the Black Caps.
The men in green were then involved in the 2025 Champions Trophy and ended up being eliminated in the group stage after losing to New Zealand and India.
Their final game against Bangladesh was washed out.
