Former Pakistan batsman Faisal Iqbal has called for opener Abdullah Shafique to go back to domestic cricket in order to work on the basics.

His comments come after Shafique endured a torrid time during the three-match ODI series against South Africa.

The 25-year-old from Sialkot was dismissed for a duck in all three games, which raised concerns about his form.

Faisal noted that Shafique will benefit from playing domestic cricket as it will allow him to work on his technique and regain some confidence.

“Time for Abdullah Shafique to go back to batting basics in domestic cricket, [especially] after 3 consistent failures 0, 0, 0,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

After the ODIs, Pakistan and South Africa played a two-Test series, which the Proteas won 2-0.
