Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir believes the coaches who dropped fast bowler Mohammad Abbas “because of his pace” deserve a slap on the face.
Abbas had to wait three years before finally being given the chance to make his Test comeback in the 1st Test against South Africa in Centurion.
The 34-year-old didn’t disappoint on his return as he took seven wickets, including a career-best 6-54 in the second innings that nearly led Pakistan to an incredible win.
Amir applauded Abbas for his fighting spirit and admitted that he cannot believe the Sialkot native was left out of the Test squad for so long when he possesses so much talent.
“Bring those coaches forward who dropped Abbas because of his pace. It took Abbas three years to make a comeback – a slap in their faces,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter, as quoted by Geo Super.
Pakistan lost the 1st Test by two wickets and will now look to bounce back in the 2nd Test against South Africa, which begins on January 3 in Cape Town.
