Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif believes spin-bowling all-rounder Shadab Khan is being prepared as the country’s next all-format captain.
Currently, Shan Masood captains Pakistan in Test cricket, while Mohammad Rizwan is the limited overs skipper, meaning he leads in ODIs and T20Is.
However, Latif doesn’t see Masood and Rizwan staying in their respective roles for a long time as he feels Shadab is being groomed to take over in the near future.
“Shadab, I think is being prepared as the all-format captain because he is playing first-class cricket,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Shadab hasn’t been picked for any of Pakistan’s recent assignments, including their tours of Australia and Zimbabwe.
He also wasn’t selected for their ongoing trip of South Africa, where the men in green lost the T20I series 2-0.
However, Pakistan rebounded in the ODI series as they whitewashed the Proteas 3-0.
Pakistan and South Africa will now play two Tests, with the first match getting underway on December 26 in Centurion.
