Pakistan big-hitting batsman Iftikhar Ahmed has called on the national team to play a more attacking style of cricket.
He noted that the way the sport is played has changed dramatically and thus feels being more aggressive is the only way to triumph over the top sides in the world, such as India, Australia and England.
Iftikhar pointed out that those three teams are so dominant and if the men in green want to join them as one of the most feared sides in the world, their entire mindset and approach must change.
“Australia, England and India, in my opinion, have a mindset of playing attacking cricket whether they are batting or bowling, which is why they are so dominant. In my opinion, the Pakistan team needs to adopt such attacking strategies in their play otherwise we will not be able to beat the bigger sides in world cricket,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Iftikhar recently took part in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over competition that took place in Faisalabad.
In six games for the Markhors, he amassed 193 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 38.60.
The 34-year-old from Peshawar is now representing the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in the President’s Cup Grade-I (1-Day) tournament and has accumulated 236 runs in four matches, which includes a career-best knock of 154 not out, at an average of 118.
Iftikhar was not picked for Pakistan’s two-Test series against Bangladesh, which they lost 2-0.
The men in green are now taking on England in a three-match Test series and lost the first Test in Multan by an innings and 47 runs.
The second Test got underway on October 15 in Multan.
