Former fast bowler Tanvir Ahmed expressed concern that Waqar Younis will ruin Pakistan cricket after spinner Abrar Ahmed and batsman Kamran Ghulam were not included in the playing XI for the first Test against Bangladesh.

Waqar was recently appointed as Advisor to the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi, but he resigned from the role soon after.

Abrar, who ended up being picked in the second Test against Bangladesh, was the only specialist spinner selected for the series and has enjoyed great success in Test cricket, while Ghulam is still waiting to make his Test debut despite having been a strong performer in domestic cricket for a few years.

Tanvir admitted he could not understand how Abrar and Ghulam weren’t given an opportunity to play in both games and noted that the men in green should be taking advantage of their red-hot form.

“Did you all see? Waqar Younis and the selection committee have removed Abrar Ahmed and Kamran Ghulam from the Test matches against Bangladesh. The remaining state of Pakistan cricket will be ruined by Waqar Younis,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter, as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

“Shame on this third-class selection committee that dropped Abrar and Kamran Ghulam from the team. Where is Waqar Younis, who parades around as a great legend? How have these two been dropped?”

Abrar took one wicket in the second Test at an average of 123 as Pakistan succumbed to a 2-0 series loss.

He then featured in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over tournament held in Faisalabad, and picked up five wickets in four games for the Stallions at an average of 33.

As for Ghulam, he represented the Markhors and finished as the second-highest run-scorer with 250 runs in six matches, which included two centuries, at an average of 41.66.

The Pakistan team are now playing a three-Test series against England, which got underway on October 7 in Multan.
