Pakistan assistant coach Azhar Mahmood believes it would be a mistake for people to write off pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi after one poor performance.
His comments come after Afridi’s disappointing performance in the recent two-Test series against Bangladesh, where he took two wickets in one match at an average of 48.
Despite failing to live up to expectations, Mahmood insisted that the 24-year-old “is definitely our best bowler” as he has done well in all three formats for years.
“Shaheen Afridi is definitely our best bowler and you can’t just write him off with a single Test or Innings bowling,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion.
Pakistan were nowhere near their best in the series against Bangladesh and ended up being beaten 2-0.
Following this, Afridi captained the Lions in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over tournament held in Faisalabad, and claimed nine wickets in four games at an average of 29.33.
Currently, he is representing Pakistan in their three-Test series against England, which began on October 7 in Multan.
