Legendary Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi said everyone wants to see limited overs captain Babar Azam keep improving.
Afridi acknowledged that the 29-year-old is already a “world-class player”, but now wants to see him transform himself into a “world-class captain too”.
Azam’s captaincy has been closely scrutinised as many remain unconvinced about whether he is the right man for the job.
However, Afridi has backed the Lahore-born batsman and is confident he will prove his doubters wrong.
“We want improvement in Babar Azam, he is a world-class player and we want him to be [a] world-class captain too,” he was quoted as saying by Khel Shel on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Azam recently led Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and scored 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
Pakistan began with losses to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to take down Canada and Ireland.
Despite ending the group stage with a 2-2 record, the men in green failed to progress to the Super Eights.
