Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie has confirmed that top order batsman Shan Masood will continue captaining the country in Test cricket.

Gillespie’s comments indicate that Masood’s future as Test skipper isn’t in any doubt ahead of a packed international schedule for the men in green.

In the coming months, Pakistan will face Bangladesh in a two-Test series from August 21 to September 3 before playing three Tests against England from October 7 to 28.

The men in green will then take on South Africa in a two-match Test series from December 26 to January 7.

“Shan Masood will lead the Test team. He is currently playing county cricket in England. Although we have not met, we stay in touch over the phone,” Gillespie was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Masood was not part of Pakistan’s squad for the recently concluded 2024 T20 World Cup, where the team lost to the United States of America and India before rebounding to beat Canada and Ireland.

Despite ending the group stage on a high, Pakistan were unable to make it through to the Super Eights.
