Former Pakistan team director Mohammad Hafeez has accused wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan of not being serious about playing international cricket.

Azam has been heavily criticised throughout his career due to his weight and inability to score runs consistently.

Many people have also slammed him for benefitting from nepotism as his father is former Pakistan captain Moin Khan.

Having worked with Azam in the past, Hafeez feels the 25-year-old is not committed to doing what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

“Sadly, Azam Khan is not serious [about] playing international cricket,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Azam recently featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he was trapped lbw for a golden duck against the United States of America, which was the only game he played.

Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India before claiming back-to-back wins over Canada and Ireland.

Even though they ended the group stage with a 2-2 record, it did not save the men in green from being eliminated.
