Former Pakistan team director Mohammad Hafeez has dropped a huge bombshell against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), accusing them of bringing back and selecting Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim “out of greed”.
He added that the board “made deals” with Amir and Imad, even though they “have ruined Pakistan’s cricket”.
Amir, a left-arm seamer, and Imad, a spinner, both reversed their decisions to retire from international cricket after the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL).
After playing in T20I series against New Zealand, Ireland and England, they featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
In the ICC event, Amir took seven wickets in four matches at an average of 10.28 and an economy rate of 4.50.
As for Imad, he finished with three wickets in three games at an average of 14.66 and an economy rate of four.
However, Hafeez believes that the duo should have never been picked in the first place as they are not interested in earning their selection by playing domestic cricket.
“They (PCB) brought them here out of greed, made deals with such players (Amir and Wasim) who have ruined Pakistan’s cricket. I was in domestic circuit, but no one wants to play domestic cricket. It is because they were telling me that ‘any of us gets selected, we will take it’,” he was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Pakistan started their T20 World Cup campaign with successive losses to the United States of America and India before rebounding to beat Canada and Ireland.
Despite triumphing in those two games, the men in green were eliminated in the group stage of the competition.
