Former Pakistan speedster Sarfraz Nawaz believes wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan is only in the national team “due to favouritism”.
Azam has been given plenty of opportunities to prove his worth in T20Is, but he has failed virtually every time, scoring 88 runs in 14 matches at an average of 8.80 and a strike-rate of 133.33.
In the 2024 T20 World Cup, the 25-year-old son of former Pakistan captain Moin Khan only played against the United States of America, but was dismissed for a golden duck.
“Azam Khan is there due to favouritism; what can we do when there’s favouritism here and there?” Nawaz told Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan lost their first two T20 World Cup games against the United States of America and India before fighting back to claim wins over Canada and Ireland.
However, it was too little, too late for the men in green as they were eliminated in the group stage of the competition.
