Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali believes there is a deep divide between limited overs captain Babar Azam and the selection committee when it comes to the team.

Basit noted that it seems like the 29-year-old “is on one page”, while the selectors are “on the other”.

His comments come after the men in green have endured a difficult period as they drew 2-2 with New Zealand in a five-match T20I series, won 2-1 in a three-match T20I series against Ireland and lost 2-0 in a four-match T20I series against England.

Right now, Pakistan are featuring in the 2024 T20 World Cup, but find themselves on the brink of elimination after losing their first two matches against the United States of America and India.

“Babar Azam ek taraf, baaki selectors dusre taraf (Babar Azam is on one page, the selection committee is on the other),” Basit said on his YouTube channel as quoted by NDTV.

Pakistan’s next game in the T20 World Cup will be against Canada in New York on June 11.
