Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan has hit back at his critics, saying he is not a robot who can start performing when a button is pressed.
Azam’s performance in international cricket has been closely scrutinised as he hasn’t been able to have a big impact in a majority of his matches.
That said, the 25-year-old son of former captain Moin Khan made it clear that he always gives it his best whenever he steps out onto the field wearing the Pakistan jersey.
“We are not robots that you press a button and we start performing. We all want to perform for the Pakistan team because that’s how you build your name. If given an opportunity, I will try to give my best,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam missed Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand due to a grade one tear in his right calf muscle.
He returned for the three-match T20I series against Ireland and amassed 48 runs at an average of 48 and a strike-rate of 266.66.
Pakistan’s next assignment will see them play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
They will then feature in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be held in the West Indies and United States of America from June 1 to 29.
Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup game will be against the United States of America in Dallas on June 6.
