Pakistan swing bowling icon Wasim Akram has backed limited overs captain Babar Azam to get even better in the future and keep performing at the highest level.
Azam has been Pakistan’s most reliable run-scorer in all three formats for the past few years and Wasim acknowledged there is no denying how consistent he has been.
The 29-year-old proved his dependability yet again while captaining the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) as he was the highest run-scorer in the tournament with 569 runs in 11 matches, which included a century and five fifties, at an average of 56.90 and a strike-rate of 142.60.
“Babar Azam is very, very consistent. He is a great player and he will only get better. He is an incredible performer and it’s great news for Pakistan cricket,” Wasim was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Azam recently captained Pakistan in their five-match T20I series against New Zealand and made 125 runs in five games, which included a top score of 69, at an average of 31.25 and a strike-rate of 138.88.
Next up for Pakistan will be a three-match T20I series against Ireland from May 10 to 14.
After that, they will play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
