Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has shed light on the national team’s selection criteria, saying it is “all about liking and disliking” rather than players’ performances.

Akmal recently served as a consultant member on Pakistan’s selection committee when Wahab Riaz was chief selector.

With that committee having been disbanded, the 42-year-old has shed light on the way selection works when it comes to the Pakistan team.

“These days Pakistan cricket is all about liking and disliking, rather than players being picked based on performances,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Many of the national players were recently involved in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which was won by Islamabad United.

Pakistan are now playing a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which is taking place in Rawalpindi and Lahore until April 27.
