Pakistan top order batsman Ahmed Shehzad said he is still waiting for his recall to the national team despite being one of the best performers in domestic cricket over the last couple of years.
In the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QeA Trophy), Shehzad amassed 482 runs in six matches for Lahore Region Whites, which included two centuries and a fifty, at an average of 96.40.
He followed that up with 53 runs in four games in the Pakistan Cup at an average of 13.25.
The 32-year-old from Lahore bounced back in the National T20 Cup, amassing 344 runs in nine matches, which included four fifties, at an average of 43 and a strike-rate of 133.33.
His most recent domestic cricket appearance came during the President’s Trophy Grade-I, where he accumulated 273 runs in three games for the Water And Power Development Authority, which included three half-centuries, at an average of 45.50.
Having scored runs in virtually every domestic competition, Shehzad admitted it is mind-boggling that he wasn’t selected by any franchise for the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) or earned a callback to the Pakistan team.
“I have been consistently participating in domestic cricket for the past couple of years. My contributions for the country are well-documented, yet I have not been called up for national duty or the PSL. Nevertheless, I have persisted with hard work, and my current season’s performance speaks for itself,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a five-match T20I series against New Zealand from April 18 to 27.
