Former Pakistan team director Mohammad Hafeez has urged fast-rising batsman Saim Ayub not to keep relying on one shot too much as it can come back to hurt him down the line.
He noted that the 21-year-old should expand his range of shots so that he can be even more of a threat.
The former interim head coach added that by constantly playing one stroke, it could end up becoming a weakness as opposition teams will be aware of it and look to exploit it to their advantage.
“Sometimes your favourite shot becomes your weakness too,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Ayub is currently playing for the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has scored 271 runs in nine matches, which includes a top score of 88, at an average of 30.11 and a strike-rate of 158.47.
He has also proven to be a handy bowler, picking up six wickets at an average of 21.33 and an economy rate of 7.52.
The Zalmi have booked their spot in the playoffs and will face the Multan Sultans in the Qualifier on March 14.
