Pakistan High-Performance Coach Yasir Arafat believes fast bowler Abbas Afridi has what it takes to “become a good all-rounder.”

Afridi recently made his international debut in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, where he took five wickets in three games at an average of 16.20 and an economy rate of nine.

The 22-year-old also scored 23 runs, which included a top score of 15 not out, at an average of 11.50 and a strike-rate of 176.92.

Arafat noted that if Afridi works on his batting, he could go on to have a successful career as an all-rounder.

“Abbas Afridi has the potential to become a good all-rounder. I really like his attitude,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

“In the past, we have seen that bowlers tend to focus only on their bowling. It is essential for a bowler to work on their batting as well. I have observed that Abbas, in the nets, is practicing his batting.”

Afridi will now represent the Multan Sultans in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which starts on February 17.

Multan Sultans Squad for PSL 9: Mohammad Rizwan (captain), Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Usama Mir, Abbas Afridi, Ihsanullah, Faisal Akram, David Willey, Dawid Malan, Reece Topley, Reeza Hendricks, Tayyab Tahir, Shahnawaz Dahani, Mohammad Ali, Usman Khan, Yasir Khan, Chris Jordan, Aftab Ibrahim, Johnson Charles, Mohammad Shahzad
