Kraigg Brathwaite struck six boundaries during his knock of 65

West Indies opener Kraigg Brathwaite scored 65 and wicketkeeper-batsman Shane Dowrich made 61 to keep their side in control against England on the third day of the first Test in Southampton.

Starting off the day on 57/1, Brathwaite and Shai Hope converted their 14-run partnership into a 59-run stand before Hope was caught by England stand-in captain Ben Stokes at first slip off the bowling of Dom Bess for 16.

Brathwaite went on to score 65, which came off 125 balls and included six boundaries, before he was trapped lbw off the bowling of Stokes.

Shamarh Brooks managed to accumulate 39 runs before he was caught behind off the bowling of James Anderson, while Jermaine Blackwood was sent packing by Bess for 12.

Dowrich and Roston Chase stabilised the innings with an 81-run partnership before Chase was given out lbw off the bowling of Anderson for 47.

West Indies captain Jason Holder fell shortly after, while Alzarri Joseph made a quickfire 18 before he was cleaned bowled by Stokes.

Stokes then removed Dowrich for a 181-ball 61, which included eight boundaries, before the West Indies were bowled out for 318, which gave them a 114-run lead, when Shannon Gabriel was cleaned up by Mark Wood for four runs.

Stokes was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Anderson snapped up three, Bess took two and Wood claimed one.

Trailing by 114 runs, England managed to make 15 runs off the 10 overs they faced before stumps was called.

Rory Burns finished on 10, which came off 26 balls and included two boundaries, while Dom Sibley remained undefeated on five.

England ended day three on 15/0 and will continue batting on Saturday at 11:00 local time or 10:00 GMT.
