Ramiz Raja: “Inzamam didn’t do the World Cup selection right because there was a lot of confusion”

Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja believes that outgoing chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq shouldn’t have made it so confusing when picking the World Cup team.

Pakistan announced an initial squad for the World Cup before left-arm pace bowler Junaid Khan, all-rounder Faheem Ashraf and opener Abid Ali were removed in favour of batsman Asif Ali and left-arm seamers Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz.

Wahab wasn’t even in the list of 23 probables for the World Cup before being included in the finalised squad, while Amir was overlooked for the initial squad since he had taken five wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 92.60 since the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in 2017 and prior to the start of the World Cup.

“Inzamam didn’t do the World Cup selection right because there was a lot of confusion and it was a hit and a miss kind of a situation,” Ramiz was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder. “Secondly, the mindset didn’t get changed as one creates a mindset through selection, you put pressure on the captain regarding the brand of cricket one wants to play.”

Inzamam has announced that he will be stepping down as chief selector at the end of the month.
