Wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has criticised Pakistan for not being able to finish teams off when they have them on the ropes.

This was the case in Pakistan’s World Cup clash against New Zealand, where they had the Black Caps reeling at 83/5, but New Zealand still managed to finish on 237/6.

While Pakistan managed to win that match by six wickets, they did so with only five balls to spare.

Akmal noted that Pakistan cannot allow this to develop into a habit as it will lead to the men in green losing a lot of matches that they should have won.

“Pakistan’s bowling was known for getting wickets, but now after taking four or five wickets, they still allow teams to score big totals, which is disastrous and can dent Pakistan’s chances of winning major tournaments or even bilateral series,” Akmal told The Nation. “They have to overcome their mistakes quickly, if they really want to dominate world cricket.”

Pakistan now have to beat Bangladesh at Lord’s on Friday and hope that New Zealand beat England on Wednesday as that will secure them a spot in the last four.
