Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal lavished praise on batsmen Babar Azam and Haris Sohail after they stole the spotlight in the team’s World Cup match against New Zealand on Wednesday.

Azam was named Man of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 101, which came off 127 balls and included 11 boundaries.

He was well supported by Haris, who scored a 76-ball 68, which included five boundaries and two sixes.

The duo also forged a 126-run partnership as Pakistan beat New Zealand, who were previously undefeated in the tournament, and kept their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals alive.

“Congratulations! Well played Pakistan. [They] performed really well in [the] last two games, let’s carry this energy [forward]. Babar Azam and Haris Sohail played incredibly well,” Ajmal said on Twitter.

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against Afghanistan at Headingley on Saturday.

If they beat Afghanistan, Pakistan will then have to take down Bangladesh at Lord’s on July 5 in order to have any chance of reaching the last four.

However, even if they defeat Afghanistan and Bangladesh, it might not be enough as they will have to rely on the results of other matches.
