Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has admitted that the national team were completely outclassed by India in their World Cup clash on Sunday.

Akmal noted that India opener Rohit Sharma and captain Virat Kohli, who scored 140 and 77 respectively, showed “why they are world-class batsmen”.

However, Akmal praised Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir as he finished with figures of 3-47 off his 10 overs.

Amir dismissed Hardik Pandya, MS Dhoni and Kohli.

Despite his efforts with the ball, Pakistan ended up losing to their arch-rivals by 89 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

India’s victory extended their unbeaten streak against Pakistan as they have now won all seven of their meetings against their arch-rivals in the World Cup.

To make matters worse, Pakistan have now only won one of the five World Cup games they have played.

“India were clearly a better team with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli showing why they are world-class batsmen. They were too good while Mohammad Amir bowled well for Pakistan,” Akmal said on Twitter.

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against South Africa at Lord’s on Sunday.
