Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has revealed that the national team “talked about past innings to motivate ourselves” ahead of their clash with England.

Pakistan were absolutely dejected after being demolished by the West Indies, but they bounced back to defeat England by 14 runs in Nottingham on Monday and snapped their 11-game losing streak in ODIs in the process.

Hafeez, who was named Man of the Match for his 62-ball 84 and for dismissing England captain Eoin Morgan, also noted that the men in green were desperate to beat England as they didn’t want to lose their World Cup game.

“We wanted this win, we all were eagerly waiting for a win and thankfully today we got it,” Hafeez was quoted as saying by Geo.tv.

“We were hurt after the initial defeat and knew that we didn’t do well against the West Indies, but we all gathered and talked about past innings to motivate ourselves.”

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against Sri Lanka in Bristol on Friday.
