Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan believes that the national team made the right choice in including left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir in the World Cup squad.

Amir initially failed to make the cut as there were concerns over the fact that since the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in 2017, he had only taken five wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 92.60.

However, given the poor performance of Pakistan’s pace bowlers during the five-match ODI series against England, Amir was drafted into the side.

“Amir is a senior player. He does not need to prove himself. He does not have to prove anything to be in the side,” Moin was quoted as saying by cricketpakistan.com.pk. “Although his recent form is not that great, but I think in English conditions he will be successful.

“The World cup is the kind of tournament where you need your senior players. It is a good opportunity for him to cement a place in the side. If he doesn’t perform then he will end up creating a vacuum for other players to fill.”

Pakistan’s second World Cup warm-up game will be against Bangladesh in Cardiff on May 26.

They will then begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
