Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja has revealed that the national team’s batsmen can become heroes during the limited overs series against England.

Ramiz noted that the series will be watched by a lot of people as it precedes the World Cup, which will begin on May 30.

The limited overs series between England and Pakistan consists of a one-off Twenty20 International and five ODIs, and will run from May 5 to 19.

“If you want to establish [yourself] as an international cricketing superstar, then the tour of England is of great importance to you because the entire cricketing world gets glued to the tour,” Ramiz was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder. “Their [England] media is very strong and one can become an overnight sensation if [he] performs well there.”

Ramiz noted that Pakistan’s batsmen will need to play the ball as late as possible when facing England’s bowling attack as going after a delivery too early could in result in them getting out.

“The most important thing in England is that the batsmen need to pick the line of the ball early and play that ball as late as possible because if you commit early, there is a chance of getting caught in the slips as the ball swings,” he said.

“It’s time to become a hero, improve your bat speed and play with positive intent against England.”

Following the limited overs series against England, Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
