Former Pakistan seamer Jalaluddin believes that all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez’s fitness issues must be sorted out before the World Cup begins next month.

Hafeez is currently recovering after undergoing a second surgery on his fractured thumb.

However, he recently said that he was hopeful of being fit by the middle of the month, which would enable him to be available for selection for the limited overs tour of England, which starts on May 5.

Despite this, Jalaluddin noted that it is of the utmost importance that Hafeez is fully fit before he starts playing cricket again.

“His fitness issues should be sorted out before the departure,” he told The News International. “Five ODIs against England and practice matches against counties should help the team management check the players, how they are learning and maintaining their form and fitness before the World Cup.”

Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
